Artefacto announced to develop ‘Digital Leadership for Libraries’ eLearning modules

Here at CILIP we are delighted to announce that following a successful tender process, we will be working with Artefacto to create an e-Learning ‘Digital Leadership in Libraries’ programme for the Public Library workforce. It is an incredibly exciting project, made possible with funding from Arts Council England (ACE), and is the result of discussions with Libraries Connected and ACE about the implementation of the Public Library Workforce and Skills Strategy (previously, the Public Library Skills Strategy).

These discussions recognised the need for library staff and leadership to consolidate the ‘digital pivot’ made during COVID-19 into a ‘future-ready workforce’ with the digital skills needed to engage with an increasingly online (and mobile) audience. Arts Council England have provided a grant towards the cost of commissioning a Digital Leadership for Libraries programme of open-source, freely-available online learning modules, complementing the existing Digital Skills resources provided by Libraries Connected in Learning Pool.

Artefacto will work with CILIP, and a team of sector experts, to develop five open-access eLearning modules as part of ‘Digital Leadership for Libraries’. These modules are intended to create engagement with the principles and values of being a digital leader. They will unlock that potential for all public library workers, and their services, to be confident digital leaders.

CILIP Chief Development Officer, Jo Cornish explains:

“With thanks to the Arts Council, we are delighted to have this opportunity to create this resource for the sector. Being a digital leader is about mind-set and being inspired by the “art of the possible”. These modules will allow us to connect the workforce with the right knowledge, tools and confidence to be digital leaders. We are certain that this will equip them with the skills to empower their communities and enrich their services for today and the future.”

Kate Lomax, Artefacto Founder said:

“We are passionate about the digital transformation of libraries and finding new ways to make learning digital skills more engaging and accessible. Much of our work is dedicated to exploring the impact and potential of digital technologies so we're excited to work with CILIP to help bring this project to fruition".
