The Scholarly Communication Handbook: From Research Dissemination to Societal Impact, by Lai Ma, is the ideal reference for students and researchers who are looking at their publication options and the scholarly teams who support them.

The ‘Scholarly Communication Handbook’ is the first in a range of new books for academic libraries from Facet, with ‘Web Metrics for Information Professionals, Second Edition’, and ‘The Librarian’s Guide to Learning Theory’ publishing shortly.

The scholarly communications landscape is undergoing constant transformation, making research dissemination and societal impact a complex topic that can overwhelm even the most experienced authors.

The Handbook provides insight and answers to the question 'where to publish?' and is the first in a series of Books published by Facet that cover academic publishing.

The Scholarly Communication Handbook provides a practical introduction to the scholarly communication landscape, empowering readers to make informed decisions about publishing academic research.

The book takes into account key considerations around academic publishing including publication types, open access and research metrics and more.

It recognises the influences scholarly works exert on our cultural, political and technological lives, and analyses peer review types as well as open access.

The materials in this book can be adapted by postgraduate programmes as well as used for career development training of PHD students.

It aims to support the reader in spotting and stopping potential misinformation and disinformation in journalistic and social media reporting that include terms such as 'peer review' or 'reprints' by providing an overview of scholarly communications.

The content of this book is reflective of Ma's own experiences, featuring what she would have wanted to know as an early- career researcher and what she wants her students need to know about making informed choices when assisting researchers.

Lai Ma is Assistant Professor at the School of Information and Communication Studies at University College Dublin, where she teaches in the Master of Library and Information Studies programme.

She has been published in the Journal of Documentation, UKSG Insights and has now published her own book with Facet Publishing, The Scholarly Communication Handbook.
