There is scope to develop one, two or three anti-racist library collection modules that will form a program of training for public libraries across Wales.
The development of this training is the second phase of the Anti-Racist Library Collections project, a three-phased Welsh Government funded project intended to support the delivery of the Welsh Government’s Anti-Racist Wales Action Plan.
The Anti-Racist Wales Action Plan aims to eradicate institutional and systemic racism by organisations working together, collectively and collaboratively, to bring about change.
Via co-production with a Steering Group made up of staff of all levels and from across Wales, the Anti-racist Library Collections project aims to identify, develop and implement the most appropriate training model and content to enable librarians to confidently shape and share library collections along clear anti-racist principles .
The project is being funded through a £135,000 grant from the Welsh Government, secured by CILIP Cymru Wales on behalf of CILIP.
In phase one of the project, now completed, consultants undertook a survey, interviews and literature reviews into training formats and into anti-racist training content.
The findings and recommendations from this phase are to be taken forward as the basis for phase two, the development of the training content that is the focus of this invitation.
The Anti-racist collections training program will provide practical strategies, guidance and activities for all levels and responsibilities of staff to promote anti-racist practices and further learning.
Whilst Wales specific content and context is required for all modules, the curriculum should have relevance beyond Wales and beyond the public library sector.
