CILIP Chief Executive Louis Coiffait-Gunn has written to Secretary of State Lisa Nandy MP to highlight the vital role libraries play in our democracy.
Louis is writing on behalf of CILIP to relevant appointees in the new government, as well as to all incoming MPs as they settle into their roles.
In the letter, Louis states:
“At CILIP, we are guided by our Royal Charter to develop and improve library and information services. We champion our members’ positive impact, making people across the country’s lives better by providing access to trustworthy
knowledge and information, and the world of inspiring culture.
"Information professionals provide services across the economy that go far beyond the traditional view of public libraries – whether that is supporting students in schools, colleges, and universities; helping researchers
in universities, institutes and industry; or bolstering businesses of all shapes and sizes to thrive. Wherever they are, our members provide trusted and tailored support to their communities."
In the letter, Louis welcomes Lisa Nandy's commitment to libraries and information professionals, that she has shown throughout her career in Parliament, and highlights the Trust Libraries Pledge and the ongoing Libraries Change Lives Campaign that showcase to MPs, politicians, and
senior decision makers the value libraries bring, wherever they are located.
