CILIP CEO and CILIP Cymru Wales committee have written to the Head of Natural Resources Wales as well as Senedd Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change and Rural Affairs Huw Iranca Davies (MS) requesting a reconsideration of proposals
under their internal consultation to close their library and information service.
The letter expresses CILIP and CILIP Cymru Wales' concern at the proposed closure of Natural Resources Wales Library and Information Services amd how this will impact the wider fabric of specialist knowledge and research in the UK.
Natural Resources Wales' library houses a unique collection and repository of knowledge of international significance, which informs the decisions not only of Natural Resources Wales but also Welsh Government and ministers, local
authorities, and officials.
It is the expertise of professional librarians that enables these collections to be catalogued, preserved, interpreted, structured, and made available in a way that is sustainable, accountable, and attuned to enabling Natural
Resources Wales staff, environmentalists, ministers, researchers, curators, and lay users to gain the greatest possible benefit from them, both in-person and online.
