Information Professional launches

A NEW magazine for all those working in the libraries, information and knowledge sectors has been launched by CILIP.

Information Professional will provide news, in-depth reporting, analysis and insight for all those working in the profession. It replaces CILIP Update magazine and will provide a mix of open and member-only content.

The print magazine and a brand new app – which will be launching on iTunes and the Google Play Store later this month – will be available exclusively to members. However, the CILIP website will also host a digital version of Information Professional, featuring all the latest news from CILIP and across the library and information world, alongside an ever-growing collection of in depth reports; interviews with sector leaders; and expert analysis and insight.

The change reflects CILIP’s aims, helping to build connections within the wider library, knowledge and information community. CILIP Chief Executive Nick Poole said: “CILIP is the only organisation in the world operating under Royal Charter to unite, support and promote the information profession. With Information Professional, we wanted to create a magazine which truly celebrates our sector and reflects the diversity and impact of what we do – from librarianship to knowledge and information management, data science to information science. This is a magazine for and of our profession, so it makes sense that the name shouldn’t be about CILIP – it should be about the people we’re here to support.

‘We want this to be a magazine which librarians and information professionals are proud to take to their colleagues and employers and say ‘this is my profession and this is the difference we make’.”
