Nielsen Book in new partnership with CILIP to support Libraries Week

CILIP are proud to announce a new partnership with Nielsen Book as sponsors of a special event at Westminster to launch Libraries Week 2018. Libraries Week is a celebration of the nation’s much-loved libraries and this year has a wellbeing theme.

Libraries Week takes place between the 8th and 13th October and will showcase how libraries bring communities together, combat loneliness, provide a space for reading and creativity and support people with their mental health. On Saturday 13th October community choirs will bring the joy of singing into local libraries up and down the country.

The launch event is hosted by the All Party Parliamentary Group for Libraries and takes place in the State Rooms of the Speaker’s Office on Tuesday 9th October. Speakers include Michael Ellis MP - Secretary of State at the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport - and Professor Steven Broomhead - Chair of the Leadership for Libraries Taskforce and Chief Executive of Warrington Borough Council.

The event will end with a performance from NewYVC, a youth choir from Newham, London. NewYVC are directed by Community Interest Company Living Song, who work in partnership with Stratford Circus Arts Trust and regularly give performances in libraries.

Jo Shaw, Sales Director, Book Discovery & Commerce Solutions at Nielsen Book said, “Nielsen Book is delighted to be sponsoring this year's Libraries Week. We have always supported libraries of all sizes in public, academic and corporate environments and strongly believe they have an integral role to play in our communities. We are really excited to be working with CILIP to help grow Libraries Week into a celebration of everything information professionals and libraries do to contribute to our society.”

Nick Poole, Chief Executive of CILIP, the library and information association said, “I am delighted that Nielsen Book is supporting Libraries Week. With their help we are working with national and local politicians, library staff and supporters to promote the wellbeing and health benefits of using libraries – which includes saving the NHS just under £30 million a year, reducing stress and increasing life satisfaction.”
