Professional Registration Conversion Pathway to KM Chartership and KM Fellowship
Be part of your profession

Professional Registration Conversion Pathway to Knowledge Management Chartership and Knowledge Management Fellowship

If you already hold MCLIP or FCLIP we have a specially designed pathway for you that will enable you to attain the equivalent version that shows your KM professional specialism. This will allow you to attain KM Chartership (MCLIP KM) or KM Fellowship (FCLIP KM) without having to start from scratch again.

Knowledge Management (KM) Chartership is the level of Professional Registration for those working in KM who wish to be recognised for their skills, knowledge, and application of these in the form of reflective practice. You can take the conversion pathway to this if you have already been awarded MCLIP.

Knowledge Management (KM) Fellowship is an ideal way to evaluate the impact you have had on your organisation and the wider profession. You can take the conversion pathway to this if you have already been awarded FCLIP.

What does the KM Conversion Pathway involve?

You will have already successfully made the case for being a Chartered Member or Fellow of CILIP as evidenced by previously being awarded MCLIP or FCLIP; however, you will need to make the case for being awarded the specialist Knowledge Management (KM) version.

Candidates will do this by demonstrating their professional expertise and ongoing CPD in KM via a submission that includes:

  • An annotated CV showing that they are an experienced KM practitioner
  • Their current job description, annotated to show that KM is a significant element of their role
  • A copy of their organisation's aims & objectives, or similar (if there isn't one the candidate should create an equivalent document)
  • A CPD log of 20+ hours of CPD aligned to the specified areas of the PKSB for Knowledge Management (this is the same log format as used for revalidation and replaces the requirement for submitting a PKSB report)
  • An evaluative statement of no more than 500 words addressing the three criteria for the award (MCLIP Chartered Knowledge Manager or FCLIP Knowledge Management Fellow)
  • 2-3 pieces of evidence supporting the evaluative statement
  • For FCLIP Knowledge Management Fellow candidates, a letter of support

To understand more about the criteria, download the KM Chartership guide or KM Fellowship guide

Enrolment is free. Candidates will pay the relevant submission fee for their level.
