SocialLink is a professional network exclusively for CILIP members. SocialLink makes it easier to expand your professional network, keep up to date with your Special Interest Groups and Regional Network and find out what events are happening near you.
Join groups, take part in discussions, subscribe to blogs, share resources and stay up to date with the CILIP member community on SocialLink. You can also update your details and renew your membership online - this guide will show you how.

SocialLink is a private social network for CILIP members, making it easier for you to network and share ideas and best practice with other members.
You can login to the site here: https://www.cilip.org.uk/login.aspx
Once you’ve logged in, you’ll be taken to your feed. We’d encourage you to bookmark the link so you can return to it easily in future.
You will have received an email with your login details for the CILIP website when you registered. Contact the membership team on membership@cilip.org.uk if you haven’t received this.
If you were a member prior to November 2017 your old username should still work, but you will need to reset your password here: https://www.cilip.org.uk/general/email_pass.asp
Your feed is where you’ll see updates and announcements from your connections, special interest groups, regional network and CILIP.
If you post an update here, it will appear in the feeds of your connections.
The profile pages are very important. This is where you can see the information that you’re sharing with your connections.
From the Account + settings dropdown option in the navigation bar you can control what information you share with other members, choose which communications you receive from CILIP, which website notifications you want to receive and let us know about any changes to your details.
About
Click the About tab to see what details CILIP has about you.
Click the Edit icon next to any of the fields to be taken to the profile editor.
Profile – in here you can:
- Update your personal details and change your password (if you don't like how your name is appearing in emails from CILIP, this is the place to change it)
- View your CILIP membership number
- Update your contact details
- Update your professional details
- Change/choose your subject interests (enabling us to personalise your experience on CILIP’s website)
- Opt in and out of email communications from CILIP and our member networks (scroll down to the bottom of the page to find these)
Clicking on the red padlock icon next to a profile field allows you to choose whether to show this information to other members.
Your name and profile picture (if you have chosen to upload one) are shared with other CILIP members on SocialLink to enable you to network with them. You can set your details to private or member only, if you would like other members to see this information (e.g. your Twitter handle, employer name, general location) by changing your privacy settings in your profile.
Selecting ‘member only’ will only share your details with CILIP members you are already connected to on SocialLink.
To update your communication preferences, scroll down to the CILIP communication preferences section. Use the arrow next to the answer box to tell us whether you’d like to receive those mailings. If you leave the box blank you will not receive that type of communication.
Information and settings
There are four areas here:
- Preferences – control which CILIP SocialLink notifications you’d like sent to your email address.
- Forum settings – control which notifications you get from the group forums you participate in.
- Blog subscriptions – manage the CILIP blogs you subscribe to and the notifications you receive from them.
- Manage social sign-on – here you can link your Facebook or LinkedIn account to the CILIP website enabling you to log in using your social media account.
Payments and history
View your payment history with CILIP – you can filter this by membership subscriptions, event registrations, donations and by paid or outstanding invoices.
You can also pay any outstanding invoices here.
Content and features
Here you can view and manage your profile photo and any other photos you’ve shared on SocialLink.
Professional development
This feature is in development – please continue to use the CILIP VLE to record your CPD until further notice.
Search the CILIP members’ directory, find other members you know and connect with or message them.
Depending on the other member's privacy settings, you'll see these options.
This is where you’ll find messages from your connections and other members – you can read, reply to and send messages from here.
Message preferences enable you to choose whether you receive an email when someone sends you a message. You also have the option to receive a reminder email when you have unread messages older than 30 days in your inbox. You can update these preferences in the Information and settings area of your profile.
Just like Facebook and LinkedIn, Social Link allows you to connect with other CILIP members. Updates and posts from your connections will appear in your feed.
You’ll find a list of your current connections on the Connections tab, click on their name to view their profile. You can only view the profiles of members you are connected with.
The Groups tab is where you’ll find devolved nations, special interest groups and regional member networks.
Click on the name of one of your groups to be taken to the group feed. To join a group simply click the ‘Join Group’ option under the group name in the available groups section, or click the group name to be taken to their feed and select ‘Join Group’ in the top right hand corner of the page.

Under Quick Links you’ll find links to the main CILIP homepage, a list of the blogs you’ve subscribed to and the VLE.

Clicking on the bell icon will show you a list of recent notifications from your network, your groups and CILIP.

You can also access SocialLink via a mobile app - simply download the app from Google Play or the App Store and login using your username and password.
