Gifts in Wills

When you leave a gift in your Will to CILIP, you help to ensure that we can continue to support a strong and sustainable library and information profession for the future.

Your gift will enable us to provide much-needed support for the profession, including enabling new and recently-graduated professionals to become part of our community.

125 years and counting

In 2023, we celebrated the 125th anniversary of our establishment under Royal Charter – a fantastic milestone for our profession.

We are proud to be the only organisation in the world operating under Royal Charter to unite, support and promote the interests of librarians and information professionals working in all sectors.

By remembering CILIP in your will, you will ensure that we can continue to be here for librarians and information professionals for generations to come.

Speak to us about Will-based giving

We understand that once your loved ones are looked after, leaving a gift in your Will to a Charity is a big decision. We are not able to provide legal or financial advice, but if you would like to speak to a member of the CILIP Senior Team about a potential gift, please do contact us on 0207 255 0500 or by email to Denise Hawkes.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are CILIP's Charity Details?

Our details are:

Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP)
c/o Woburn House, 20-24 Tavistock Square, London, WC1H 9HQ

I have a Will already. Can I update it to leave a gift to CILIP?

Yes. You can add a 'codicil' to make any minor changes to your Will, including addition of a gift to a Charity. You should speak to your Solicitor about any amendments to your Will.

Can I specify how my gift should be used?

Because we are a small Charity and need regularly to update our work programme to reflect the changing needs of our members, we ask that any gifts are made for the 'general charitable purposes' of CILIP.

Will my gift be taxed?

No. Gifts to charities are exempt from Inheritance Tax and this can be a way of reducing exposure of your estate to tax. For more information, visit the HM Revenue & Customs website.
