CILIP is a registered nominating organisation on behalf of the library, information and knowledge management sector for the Expert Panels which will support the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021 process. For information about the nominations process, please refer to nominating panel members.

We are pleased to issue this call for Expressions of Interest from suitably-qualified experts for nomination either to the 4 main REF panels or the 34 sub-panels. HEFCE has published documentation about the role, time commitment and eligibility criteria for panel members at Roles and recruitment of the expert panels (REF 2017/03). Specifically, nominations are sought for: 

• Additional main panel members (with expertise in leading, commissioning or making use of interdisciplinary research, leading research internationally, or senior level experience in the commissioning, use or wider benefits of research)
• Sub-panel members and assessors (including practising researchers, individuals with expertise in commissioning, applying or making use of research, and interdisciplinary advisers).

The REF funding bodies are seeking nominations of candidates from a diverse range of backgrounds, institution types and geographical region. Nominations of candidates from groups previously under-represented on assessment panels are particularly welcome, including women, people from black and ethnic minority backgrounds, and disabled people.

The closing date for the submission of nominations by CILIP is the 20th December. An internal Nominations Panel will be meeting on Friday 15th December to review al submitted nominations. Please could interested parties therefore submit their Expression of Interest, including a short personal statement (100-150 words), a CV detailing relevant skills and experience and confirmation of eligibility under the REF criteria to nick.poole@cilip.org.uk, to arrive not later than 17.00 on Wednesday 13th December.

CILIP will confirm the list of candidates put forward for nomination as soon as possible after the 15th December.
