CILIP Training: Moving into Research Support

Moving into Research Support: what librarians really need to know

Thursday 1st February 2018

The participation of library and information professionals in research support is a growing area for the academic library sector but how can librarians get involved if they don't understand the background to this area? Where do libraries and librarians fit within the research lifecycle and what it means to be a researcher in the 21st century?

This workshop highlights key areas that librarians need to know about when it comes to research support and will help you gain an understanding of what support libraries can offer researchers. These areas range from planning, through to post-publication and shows how everything links together.

Aimed at academic librarians, this workshop explains the different ways libraries can support researchers. If you want to increase your knowledge of research support, are new to working in this area, have research support responsibilities as part of a wider role or are thinking about working in a research support role but are unsure of the responsibilities and terminology, then this workshop is for you.

By attending this workshop you will:

• Gain an understanding of the basics of research support services in an academic library context
• Have a working knowledge of terminology and current debates
• Be able to understand the research landscape and the challenges facing researchers
• Understand the various roles available to librarians in research support

Many thanks to CILIP East Regional Network for their work with us to arrange this training course.
