Academic and Research Libraries Group is holding an AGM on Tues 6 February 2024 from 15:00 – 16:30 via MS Teams. The meeting will review the results of a CILIP/ARLG member vote on a resolution to evolve into one national Special Interest Group with Regional Event Co-ordinators in order to remain viable. We ask that members vote before the start of the meeting.

Nominations:
CILIP/ARLG Members are encouraged to nominate themselves for committee roles on this ARLG National committee. Once we have recruited the minimum 3 key roles we will look to broaden representation with new roles suggested by members.
Why are we proposing these changes?
In alignment with the CILIP Community Strategy and for the following reasons we are proposing a restructure of how ARLG operates as a Special Interest Group and would like to invite you to vote on these proposals. In putting this set of proposals in front of you we seek to ensure the ongoing viability of our group and our work for our members. There will be an opportunity during the AGM for Q&A on the CILIP Community Strategy and we welcome CILIP Director of Sector Development Sonia Ramdhian.
-
ARLG is an unusual Special Interest Group for having regional sub-committees. CILIP HQ only supports the National Group in terms of finances.
-
ARLG National Committee has been non-viable since the resignation of the Chair in 2019, having only a Treasurer. Without a viable National Committee, ARLG cannot continue to operate.
-
Despite some mergers, several regional committees continue to report that they are not viable at present or have ongoing difficulties recruiting and retaining active committee members or finding time to meet as well as plan events.
-
A strong National Committee drawing members from those keen individuals in active regional committees who wish to continue in committee roles, can support the activities across the regions, e.g. sharing publicity functions, event ideas, and creating new roles to enable succession planning and draw in Professional Registration candidates to gain experience.
-
We would like to encourage more collaboration between regional groups and other Sector-specific Special Interest Groups and Regional Member Networks, sharing good practice and the work involved in planning and running events.
