New Vacancy - Chair for the Academic and Research Libraries Group, Scotland

Could you be the next Chair of Academic and Research Libraries Group Scotland?

ARLGS is the Scottish branch of the CILIP special interest group ARLG. We aim to provide a focus and forum for the professional concerns and interests of everyone working in further and higher education or research libraries in Scotland.

Purpose of role: To act as lead officer for CILIP Academic and Research Libraries Group in
Scotland.

Responsibilities:


1. To co-ordinate the activities of the Academic and Research Libraries Group Scotland (ARLGS) and ensure it meets its core offer and annual priorities as set out in the business plan.
2. To act as lead spokesperson for ARLGS and where appropriate, represent ARLGS at CILIP meetings and external events and where necessary, organise alternative representatives.
3. To chair committee meetings and annual general meetings and be responsible for the smooth operation of meetings.
4. To work with other officers and committee members to prepare the business plan and annual report.
5. To liaise with the secretary regarding communication with committee members.
6. To maintain an effective overview of the financial position of ARLGS and liaise with the treasurer on financial issues.
7. To be the key link with CILIP and CILIPS to ensure professional issues relating to members of ARLGS are raised and to lead contributions to CILIP/S initiatives and responses to policy developments.
8. To promote the membership and benefits of ARLGS as a wider organisation within the library and information profession.

The amount of time this role takes up will vary and may be 1-3 hours per week. Please note this is not a paid position.

Vacancy: Academic and Research Libraries Group (ARLG) Secretary

Job role: To act as one of the honorary officers for ARLG

 

Responsibilities



  • To be the contact for ARLG, receiving requests and correspondence and dealing with these or passing them on as appropriate.

  • To liaise with the Chair in passing on information items to committee members and in drawing up agendas for committee meetings.

  • To send out agendas at the appropriate time before each committee and general meeting.

  • To attend and take minutes of committee and general meetings of ARLG, circulate these minutes within a reasonable timescale of the meetings taking place and provide a summary of the minutes.

  • In conjunction with other committee members organise the AGM, prepare the agenda and paperwork for the AGM, record the minutes at the AGM and prepare them for presentation at the next AGM.

  • To work with other officers and committee members to produce the yearly annual report.

  • To keep abreast and advise the committee on issues relating to regulations and guidance governing Member Networks.

  • To keep abreast and advise the committee on issues of governance and elections relating to ARLG.

  • To undertake administrative tasks (such as up-to-date email addresses for committee members) and maintain effective records for ARLG.

  • To liaise with the CILIP Development Officer (Member Networks) and inform of any changes to officer and committee roles.

  • As one of the officers, to participate in overall management of ARLG.

  • To promote the membership and benefits of ARLG and CILIP within the library and information profession.

 

Applicants must:



  • Be a member of ARLG.

  • Provide evidence of recent experience of working in the academic and research sector at a senior level.

  • Have excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Have excellent organisational skills.
