Hi Everyone.
I trust this email finds you all well and gearing up (or is it powering down) for the holidays.
We recently had one of our library database vendors report "suspicious activity" with over 600 pdf downloads in an hour. Could it be possible that this is the result of a student using an AI research tool like Keenious or SciSpace?
And if the prohibited part of the library database license agreement states... "use any robots, spiders, crawlers or other automated downloading programs, algorithms or devices to continuously and automatically search, scrape, extract, deep link, index or disrupt the working of the ebooks" ... can the AI tools be seen as “automated downloading programs” given that the user asks the tool to search for them and does not do so “continuously”?
I would be interested to hear anyone's thoughts. This has just happened to us and is still under investigation.
As I am new to this group, please excuse me if this topic has surfaced before.
Regards
Debby
