Dear CILIP Public & Mobile Libraries Group, I wonder if you can help - a client of mine has just revised their book and released the second edition (The Life You Can Save by Peter Singer). I'm guessing it differs library to library, but as public librarians how do you decide which books you want to include in your library and how do you order them? One fellow CILIP member was telling me how when she was a public librarian, they would meet as a group of librarians and discuss new books and judge by specific criteria. Then they would order through an online system through their reseller. I'd love to hear your feedback about this. It's better to be getting this information how you need. How do you find out about new books? I asked some of the booksellers, but they said they did not send out alerts about new books as they get too many - so how do you find out about which to consider? How do you want to receive information about new books/revised editions? I got the impression from a survey I did on Twitter that librarians are not interested in free audiobooks/ebooks - though that was a tiny data sample and may be completely wrong!
