With the theme of "Building for the Future" we have assembled a powerful line-up of speakers from across Ireland and the UK. We'll be hearing from speakers on what decolonisation can look like in Ireland, North and South, learning how to develop futures literacy skills and hearing how AI can be harnessed from the world's only machine-learning librarian!

Artificial Intelligence prompts hope and anxiety in almost equal measure. There are undoubtedly positive uses of AI to help the profession increase access to knowledge, but also ethical and implementation challenges that need to be met. This Keynote address explores how libraries can respond strategically to build their AI capability.

There is a cycle of belonging the includes ‘ the head, the heart and the hands’ and unless all these are recognised in whatever work we do, we fail to build for the future. Migration must also be centre place in this cycle by recognising the migrant in everyone.

‘Baby Talk’ Neonatal Intensive Care Reading Project

The “baby talk” reading project provides board books for loan to parents/carers and staff to read to neonatal intensive care babies at particular risk of reduced exposure to communication. It is a collaboration between clinical staff, hospital library staff, and Louth library service.

This workshop provides a rapid introduction to the concept of futures literacy and the role of scenarios in futures studies. It includes a practical exercise in which you will develop a set of scenarios yourself and explore how these can be used for improving your library service and making it more resilient to uncertainty. This workshop is based on a CILIP UK toolkit which accompanies the future libraries report Come rain or shine. Attendees are recommended to read Come rain or shine beforehand

In this presentation, Daniel will discuss how libraries can practically leverage AI and machine learning. In particular, Daniel will focus on some areas where libraries may benefit from AI and where these technologies may not be helpful. The goal of the session is to focus on practical and approachable uses of machine learning, which reflect the values of the library sector and library professionals.

Building a Decolonised Future Through Irish Libraries.

Decolonisation is a concept which has been popularised in the library community, particularly in England and North America. This presentation explores case studies of decolonising libraries abroad and what decolonisation looks like in Ireland, both North and South of the border, including Irish language inclusion, Traveller inclusion, and antiracism initiatives.
