Celebration day: celebrating the success of libraries and librarians

Join us as we hear from Sarah Curran's absorbing talk about the current state of play in public libraries in Trafford, and David Stewart's enthusing discussion about CILIP and the important role we all play in its future and the futures of library and information professionals from across the North West and beyond.
We're also pleased to announce, a workshop, by Lisa Jeskins focusing on the different ways of promoting ourselves and our services in a challenging climate. Celebrating our talents, skills and knowledge, and the excellent services we offer to our customers, this brilliant, interactive workshop is aimed at everyone from new professionals to seasoned librarians.

10.45-11.30 Sarah Curran, Head of Customer Services, Altrincham Library
Sarah's talk will focus on Trafford's experience in dealing with challenging budget cuts over the last four years, but concentrate on the positive things happening in Trafford, and celebrate new libraries and abolishing fines. This excellent talk will give the audience a unique insight in to the current state of play in public libraries, showcasing their amazing work.
11.30-12.15 David Stewart, Regional Director of Health Libraries & Knowledge Services North and CILIP President
David will talk about his Presidential themes; the need for an evidence-based profession and also showcasing great library and knowledge staff from the North of England. He will also be answering your questions and taking your feedback about the future direction of CILIP.

13.30-15:30 Lisa Jeskins, Self-promotion and service promotion, blatant or otherwise: tips and techniques to get better at it.
An introduction to promoting ourselves and our services. We’ll examine what this really means and how we can reframe promotion to make ourselves as comfortable as possible with it. We’ll have a look at the psychology behind influencing and the different channels we can use to influence others.
