We will consider the role of authority in the library classroom and how authority is expressed, demonstrated and used with learners. Attendees will be asked to reflect on their own authority as teacher librarians and how they use that power within the classroom.

This session will invite attendees to explore and consider the implied and apparent power structures at work in library teaching. We will consider the role of authority in the library classroom and how authority is expressed, demonstrated and used with
learners. Attendees will be asked to reflect on their own authority as teacher librarians and how they use that power within the classroom.
In addition, Darren will describe and reflect on his own attempts at critical teaching practices by incorporating democratic principles in one-short library sessions.
