UKeiG CPD Zoom Course: Interactive Tools for Presentations and Teaching
10 am - 1 pm on Thursday 22nd February 2024

Overview - How do we truly engage our audience when presenting ideas, welcoming new users, or teaching? There are plenty of freely available tools which allow more interaction, which can be used either instead
of or alongside traditional presentation tools like PowerPoint. The great thing is they work equally well in online environments like Zoom or Teams, or in person when presenting face-to-face.
This online course will explain how, when and why to use these tools, and you give you a chance to try them out.
Who should attend?
Librarians, IT and information professionals from any sector, and other professional services staff from FE and HE, who deliver presentations or training, online or in person.
Course outline and learning outcomes
The course will up-skill experienced presenters and teachers, but also benefit junior colleagues who are keen to develop their online support service experience. It's relevant to anyone who delivers induction sessions and information skills workshops, or otherwise are keen to embrace interactive tools to improve their online communications with staff, students and work colleagues, or at conferences and events.
Topics covered include:
Delegates will explore a range of tool including: • Menti (formerly Mentimeter): a surprisingly versatile quizzing tool. You can survey your audience, take
questions, test their knowledge and canvas opinions - Menti can also be used to create entire presentations with basic slides • Prezi Next: whilst Prezi itself isn't
as directly interactive as the other tools here, its non-linear nature means you can run audience-led sessions that focus on the areas they're most interested in • Google
Slides: Google's own version of PowerPoint has one particular feature we'll be focusing on, known as Google Q&A. It allows the audience to ask questions via their keyboard at any time during your presentations,
and tends to result in many more questions being asked even in face-to-face sessions • Padlet: a sort of virtual noticeboard that can be used in variety of ways. We'll
be looking especially at Padlet's potential for groups to collaborate at a distance.
By the end of the training participants will have learned about a variety of interactive tools, tried them all out, and be able to make an informed choice as to when to use them in their online presentations, lectures, workshops, or orientation sessions.
