GLL Training 2022


Specialist skills and knowledge training for public library staff

CILIP are presenting a series of online training sessions for GLL library staff in 2022.

There are ten sessions in 2022 and they take place once a month throughout the year from March to December.

They will be held on Tuesday mornings from 10am-1pm.

All sessions (apart from June's session on Leading Rhyme Time) are online using Zoom.

Public libraries: past, present and future

29 March 2022
This session gives an introduction to public libraries, highlighting important issues from their past, looking at services now and considering key issues for their future.

Customer care in public libraries

26 April 2022
Providing an excellent service to customers is a key requirement for staff in libraries. This session will work through the principles of customer care and provide practical information and skills in dealing with customers and their enquiries.

Making public libraries more inclusive for neurodivergent people and people living with dementia

Libraries are open, welcoming, inclusive spaces for local communities. This session looks at steps libraries can take to ensure provision to customers who are neurodiverse, people who are living with dementia and customers with mental health issues.

Dealing with computer queries in public libraries
13 September 2022
Whether on their own device (laptop or mobile phone) or using a computer in the library, public library customers often look to staff to help them with key computer tasks, understand tech and make the best use of online library services.

This session looks at how to assist library users with their computer queries and covers web browsing, setting up an email account and printing in the library.

Green Libraries: How public libraries are adapting to a sustainable future

This session is about sustainability in relation to public libraries. Delegates will be able to increase their awareness of this important area, learn about projects that are currently taking place and find out about steps they can take in their own libraries.

Once registration is available for the session(s) you want to attend, click on the 'Book Now' button. Complete the online registration form. You need to fill in a registration form for each session. You don't need to be a CILIP member or sign in to the website to book and there is no fee. Once you've completed the form, submit it and you will receive an email that you've registered.

How to join the session

About a week before the session, you'll get an email with details about how to join the session, including the Zoom meeting link. On the day, open Zoom and use the Zoom meeting details to join the training session.

Certificate of completion

After you've attended a session, we'll send you a personalised certificate of completion and a link to complete a feedback form.
