Getting Started with Open Data

Claire has worked in Plymouth Libraries for over twenty years. Her most recent post was as a Development Manager with responsibility for digital services, marketing and communications.

An open data enthusiast, she is one third of the team behind the Data Treaders Library Data Camps and is involved in a DCMS project to develop a schema for public library open data.

Claire has recently started a secondment as a Business Analyst for Plymouth City Council working on a number of projects based around improving the digital experience for residents.

Dave Rowe
Software Engineer

Dave has spent the last twenty years in software development: from Computer Science studies, to roles in Customer Relationship Management software, and digital transformation roles in local government. This has included Reading Borough Council, Bath and North East Somerset Council, LibrariesWest, and Development Technical Lead at Bristol City Council.

At Bath and NE Somerset he worked to publish and automate open data from various sources, such as real-time car park occupancy, planning applications, air quality monitors, and energy usage in all public buildings and schools.

All of these open data sets have seen innovative applications built from the data, particularly from the local community group, Bath Hacked. An example of this is the Energy Sparks project, which has helped schools to become more energy efficient, fight climate change, while providing an energy educational programme for the students.
