Information architects engage in the dark art of structuring, labelling and organising information to enable users to find it. This includes information on websites, intranets, online communities, shared filing systems and software. Information
architects are responsible for the ‘user experience’ of finding and utilising information, so in addition to web development skills, you’ll also need to be adept at summarising and presenting information in an accessible way. Other job
titles you might find in this field include user experience designer and UX designer/lead.
Qualifications and experience
A knowledge of HTML and CSS is essential for most information architecture roles and some may require knowledge of other programming languages or SharePoint. Project management skills and a specific library and information science degree is
also helpful.
