Web managers

Web managers

Web managers design, develop and maintain company websites or intranets. They could be responsible for everything from writing and managing content, front end development, website architecture to UX (User Experience), system administration and analytics, in larger teams, roles are usually more specialised.

Additionally, web managers are expected to have a good understanding of SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) and SEM ( Search Engine Marketing) and associated analytics to help a company’s website grow in terms of searchability, authority, popularity and profitability.

Qualifications and experience

A background in information management or architecture is hugely beneficial for prospective web managers, as this means that you’ll already have a good understanding of how users search for and find information, which is great when looking at user experience and content management issues.

In terms of technical knowledge you’ll need to be able to code HTML, CSS and JavaScript, have an understanding of potential security and risk issues and keep up to date with the latest developments in search engine algorithms.
