About the course

Management of data is an ongoing necessity for all organisations. Over a year after the implementation of the Data Protection Act 2018, those working across the library, information and knowledge professions still need to ensure that their organisations are compliant with their increased responsibilities under the legislation in their processing of personal data. This course will examine the landscape and what we have learnt so far about the new legislation.

It will also examine the relationship between data protection and broader information management issues, cyber security and ICT as well as governance, risk and policy frameworks.

Why you should attend

This introduction to data protection principles will support attendees to ensure that their organisation complies with current data protection legislation.

By the end of the half-day session attendees will be able to:

  • Explore the nuts and bolts of their data protection compliance: what, how, why and where?

  • Implement practical strategies to remain compliant with their legal obligations

  • Understand the latest developments regarding data protection policy in the UK

  • Know what to do if there is a data breach and/or a Subject Access Request

  • Consider areas of risk when using remotely accessible services, software & hardware

  • Understand related areas of Information management, cyber security, risk and governance

  • Promote high data protection awareness in their organisation

  • Understand what they need to do next regarding essential steps to achieve full compliance

The online half-day training session on Thursday 14 May is from 10am until 1pm.
