A CILIP Training Session for Staff Working in Public Libraries

Online, Half-Day Course

This half-day online session is all about public libraries –  the history of their development and establishment – and the more recent challenges they face. Delegates will consider the purpose of public libraries, whether book lending is still relevant, and the breadth of their role in providing valuable services to local communities.

This course is designed for all staff working in public libraries and is particularly suited to newcomers and those who need a refresher.

  • Identify and discuss key issues with public libraries now
  • Consider future opportunities for public libraries

About the trainer

Diana Edmonds, Library Consultant

Diana Edmonds is an entrepreneur with a passion for developing and improving public services. A library consultant specialising in the development of public libraries,  Diana was until recently, the National Libraries Director for GLL, responsible for the management of library services in five public library authorities. Previously she was the Assistant Director for Cultural Services in the London Borough of Haringey, responsible for a dramatic improvement in the performance of the library services there.
 
Diana is  a trustee of Libraries Connected, the organisation which brings together senior librarians across the country. She has written many books and papers, and is a frequent speaker. 
 
Professional Knowledge and Skills Base (PKSB)

Enhancing skills and informing practice through expanded knowledge of the wider library, data, information and knowledge profession. Reflecting on areas of common interest or difference and contributing to the body of shared professional knowledge

Venue: Online using Zoom

The course is hosted through our online video conference system. This software is optimal for audience participation and provides free, accessible and remote access. Delegates will be sent details of the Zoom link as part of their joining instructions.
