Health and Digital Literacy Pilot Case Studies
Through the Health and Digital Literacy Partnership, small-scale pilot projects received funding for two cohorts. The first projects started in April 2022 and the second set of projects were launched in October 2022. Most of the pilots took place
over a period of nine months.
These case studies were compiled based on the outcomes and findings from the pilot projects, and are arranged in alphabetical order by region/locality.

Aylesbury: Young offenders
Increasing access to health information and engagement with health literacy by young offenders (17-21). [Download Case Study]
Ellesmere Port Library Health Helpers
Integrating health literacy and digital literacy into social prescribing, with a social prescribing team who will run wellbeing events in public libraries. [Download Case Study]
Essex: Digital Champion training
Training for public library staff and digital champion volunteers on health literacy and purchase of tablets for outreach into rural areas. [Download Case Study]
Lancashire Addressing low Health and Digital Literacy across Lancashire
Developed an online health information hub and cascading Health Literacy training to public library staff. [Download Case Study]
Leeds: Health Literacy within Library based Digital Health Hubs
Employed additional an additional librarian to extend the role of digital health hubs including developing Digital Champions and resources on a learning platform. [Download Case Study]
Newcastle: Help 4 Health
Integrating a provision of devices by Get Online Newcastle with training on health information and health apps together with developing resources for wider use. [Download Case Study]
Norfolk: Digital Health Hub – Easy Read Provision
Extending existing Digital Health Hub to provide Easy-Read shared decision-making tools. [Download Case Study]
Oldham: Digital Health Pathways for positive health outcomes
A GP surgery and a public library that are co-located, becoming a focus for health and digital drop-in services for referrals by healthcare professionals as well as self-access to information. [Download Case Study]
Scarborough: libraries as gateways to good health
Establishing public libraries as a gateway to reliable health information and upskilling the public library team to run drop-in Health and Digital Literacy sessions. [Download Case Study]
Shropshire: Your Health Admin
Your Health Admin was a toolkit designed for Shropshire residents and library staff to upskill in becoming Digital Health Champions using the Digital Unite package. [Download Case Study]
Somerset: WHAT IF – Wellbeing, Health and Technology Information for all
Digital Health Hubs were created in libraries in Taunton and Yeovil, in addition to a loan of designated health iPads and included digital health volunteers. [Download Case Study]
Suffolk: Health Click Haverhill
Focused on local community in Haverhill, with an enhanced health information offer in the town library and outreach to key groups. [Download Case Study]
Staffordshire: Be Your Health

Westminster & Kensington and Chelsea Health Hubs
Online outreach with adult education to increase Health and Digital Literacy in two locations with high deprivation – Church Street and North Kensington. [Download Case Study]
Health and Digital Literacy Partnership
The pilot projects were launched as part of the Health and Digital Literacy Partnership, which connects librarians and NHS health professionals to create new opportunities for tackling digital literacy and health inequalities.
