LIRG are pleased to announce that the “introduction to research skills” tutorials developed for our members are now moving onto the CILIP eLearning Hub. The first module “What is research?” is now live and can be accessed by CILIP members using this
link: https://www.cilip.org.uk/page/LIRGLandingPage (please note you will need your CILIP details to log into the site).
The next two modules will go live on the CILIP eLearning Hub over the next few months. These are:
2.
How to plan research.
3.
Doing research.
The tutorials have been designed to be as interactive as possible. They use question prompts to encourage you to reflect and review your knowledge and experience with research. The tutorials also include handouts to help you explore the benefits of research to you and your organisation. To add value to these tutorials, the Library and Information Research Group committee members have shared their hints and tips that they have learnt about research in their careers. An opportunity to have some guidance as you explore and begin your research journey.
Each tutorial includes videos from experts on how to develop research skills. The tutorials are designed to support several areas of the PKSB, including (4) research skills; (12) IT and communication; and (9) leadership and advocacy. The first tutorial “what is research” aims to make research approachable. It answers the question ‘why should I do research?’. The module includes case studies and key arguments on how research can help LIRG members to develop as a professional. These might be useful to help provide justification for research to a manager or organisation. The tutorial includes link to relevant journal articles, demonstrating research in practice and further information on the topics discussed.
We hope you find the tutorials helpful. If you have any comments or feedback, please let us know.
