LIRG Committee Vacancies

Posted By Fariba Bannerman, 24 March 2021

The Library and Information Research Group Committee needs new members!

The Library and Information Research Group (LIRG) supports and raises the profile of library and information science research and its use by CILIP members and the wider community.  We encourage 'research into practice' by providing activities and publications for LIS practitioners and researchers.

The LIRG committee meets monthly via zoom.  Committee members are from a range of different backgrounds and library sectors and include both practitioners and library academics providing a lively, diverse and friendly group.  A number of our committee members have taken up other roles within CILIP, so we are recruiting new committee members to fill soon to be vacant positions.  We also want to recruit to a new position to expand our member offer.  Training and support in all roles will be provided by existing committee members and CILIP as appropriate. The time commitment for all roles is approximately 1 hour per week.  This can increase at certain times of the year depending on role. If you want to gain additional skills and develop your career further, why not apply to join our committee? Being part of a cross-sectoral CILIP committee is a great way to engage with your profession and to network with information professionals from all sectors.

The vacancies we currently have are:
Secretary
Digital Officer
Content Creator
Events Officer
Awards and Prizes Officer

General requirements for committee members include:

  1. Commitment to LIRG mission of conducting research and/or putting research into practice within LIS setting
  2. Team work and communication skills
  3. Current awareness of issues affecting the LIS sector and the role of research and evidence-based decision-making in practice.
  4. Experience of working in an LIS setting.
  5. Commitment to attending LIRG committee meetings (1 hour per month)
CILIP is committed to championing diversity, inclusion and representation. We particularly welcome applications from BAME, disabled and LGBTQ+  candidates, who have historically been under-represented on our committees.  CILIP is currently offering up to 150 complimentary memberships to library and information workers from BAME backgrounds who are duly selected to join a committee before the end of 2022.
The closing date for applying for these vacancies is 30th April 2021, as we would like to formally make the appointments to the committee at our AGM in May.
If you are interested in being a part of LIRG and would like to discuss any of the vacant positions please get in touch with Leo Appleton, incoming chair of LIRG at l.appleton@sheffield.ac.uk
