CILIP North East Member Network Bursaries
CILIP North East Member Network offer two bursaries:One for CILIP members in the north east region, and one for non members who may be interested in joining CILIP but would like to attend an event first.
- CILIP North East Member Network Bursary.
- Beyond the Horizon bursary for non-members.
Bursary for CILIP Members
We are pleased to offer a bursary for CILIP members living, working or studying within the North East Member Network region, encompassing Northumberland, Tyne and Wear, County Durham, and Teesside. This financial support can be used to attend
training events, workshops, conferences or anything which is CPD related.
Bursaries are intended to facilitate an individual’s attendance at a professional development activity or event which would not otherwise be possible
due to the cost, time commitment or location. While we encourage all members to apply, we particularly welcome applications from those from low-income or underrepresented backgrounds.
To reflect the wide range of professional
development activities available across the profession, bursaries are offered on a discretionary basis under the following structure:
- Webinar / workshop registration fees: up to £75.
- Networking opportunities with fellow LIS professionals: up to £100.
- Conferences: Up to £500.

Guidelines
- Applications for the bursary are currently open.
- Selection will be by members of the CILIP North East Member Network Committee, whose decision is final. No overall feedback will be provided, although the judges may at their discretion provide a brief reason for any rejection of an application.
- Bursaries can be full or partial cost and can include travel and accommodation costs. The assumption is that standard accommodation and second-class train travel would be selected.
- Applicants will be responsible for making all arrangements once bursaries have been approved. Costs will be reimbursed to the recipient upon submission of a completed expense form with attached receipts.
- As a condition of funding, successful applicants may be asked to produce a short written report (together with photographs where appropriate) for the CILIP North East Member Network Committee, to be published on the CILIP NE blog and/or shared in the CILIP NE Newsletter.
- Applicants for the general bursary fund must be current members of CILIP North East Member Network and must live, study or work within the North East (Northumberland, Tyne and Wear, County Durham and Teesside).
- Applicants in employment or higher education should seek approval from their organisation before submitting an application for funding.
- Requests for funding relating to Higher Education Courses will not be accepted.
- In addition, North East Member Network will not award a bursary if part funding has already been awarded from other bursary awards, sponsors or your employer.
- The bursary is not intended to supplement or replace an employer’s obligation to fund training courses necessary for the execution of the applicant’s job.
