Guidelines for Contributors

Library and Information History Group Newsletter

First issued in 1962/3, the Library and Information History Group newsletter appears three times a year online and is available on the Group's website.

We welcome all content relating to the history of libraries and information, such as feature articles, conference reports, calls for papers, exhibitions, events and lecture news and reviews, and updates about historical libraries. We’re particularly keen to hear from postgraduates and young professionals working on research projects in the field of information and library history.

Guidelines for contributors

 

General

  • All word limits include headings, captions and references. The editor reserves the right to shorten a piece if it exceeds the maximum word limit.
  • All images should come with copyright clearance and captions.
  • All submissions should be sent electronically to the editor in a Word or equivalent format.
  • Please keep notes to a limit. All references and notes should be supplied as endnotes.
  • All submissions will be checked for grammatical and spelling errors.
  • Feature articles, research in progress, and reports may be edited prior to publication.

 

Images

  • High-resolution (300dpi) and JPEG or PNG.
  • All copyright should be cleared prior to submission.
  • Captions should be provided by the author.

Submission of images is no guarantee that they will be used. Sometimes it may be necessary to reduce the number of images due to space limitations. Authors will be informed if this is the case to allow them to select the image(s) they wish to accompany their piece.

 

Feature articles

  • Word limit not exceeding 2000.

 

Research in progress

  • Word limit not exceeding 1000.

 

News items

  • Announcements and alerts should not exceed 150 words per entry.
  • Items considered for inclusion: any library and information history related news from the media; news about historic libraries; obituaries (length can be discussed); links to relevant blogs and social media groups with a brief description of their content.

 

Conferences, lectures, seminars and other events

  • Summaries and Calls for Papers should not exceed 200 words per entry.
  • Lecture series should always include the name of the speaker and the paper title. Brief abstracts will only be published if there is space, so please also provide a link to the full programme.  Always include the following: date, location, deadlines, contact details and links to further information.
  • Conference programmes are not usually accepted unless there is space in the newsletter to include them.
  • Images may be supplied although inclusion cannot be guaranteed if space is tight.

 

Exhibitions

  • Not exceeding 250 words.
  • Always include the following: date, location, links to further information.

 

Reports

  • Not exceeding 800 words.
