Bursary places are now available for the RBSCG 2024 conference in Edinburgh

Thanks to the support of a number of conference sponsors, we are delighted to be able to offer eight bursary places for the RBSCG conference in Edinburgh.

The deadline for applications is 8 August and successful applicants will be informed of the decision in the week beginning 12 August.

Bursaries are for full conference attendance, including accommodation, and the payment of travel expenses up to £100.

This year, our bursaries have been sponsored by AM, EcoSpace, Jarndyce, Max Communications, Bernard Quaritch Ltd and the RBSCG.

To apply, please email a brief statement (max 250 words) explaining why attendance at the conference would benefit you and stating that attendance at the conference would not be possible without financial assistance. Applicants should be CILIP RBSCG members or willing to become one if they are successful bursary candidates.

The available bursaries are:

1 bursary for applicants interested in digital humanities (sponsored by AM)
3 bursaries for applicants who are new professionals (sponsored by Max Communications, Bernard Quaritch Ltd and the RBSCG)
1 bursary for applicants at any stage of their career who would not otherwise be able to attend the conference (sponsored by Ecospace)
1 bursary for applicants with an interest in 18th and 19th century history and literature (sponsored by Jarndyce)
1 bursary for global majority applicants (sponsored by the RBSCG)
1 bursary for applicants based in Scotland (sponsored by the RBSCG)

We leave it to applicants to explain why they are new professionals. You might be a student or recently graduated. Equally, you might have worked in the library sector for some time but are looking to move into, or  have recently started, a role working with rare books and special collections.

Applicants should indicate which bursary they are applying for. You are welcome to apply for more than one bursary but please note the different criteria. Successful applicants may be asked to write a report for the RBSCG newsletter, a blog post, or a news article for the sponsoring institution as a requirement of accepting the bursary.

Please send applications by 8 Augustto the Alex Kither, RBSCG Secretary, at Secretary.RBSCG@CILIP.org.uk.

We actively encourage applicants from underrepresented backgrounds, including those from the global majority, LGBT+ community, people with disabilities and those who have caring responsibilities.

You can find all of the conference details on our website.

In addition to the bursary sponsors, we are grateful to the Institute of English Studies, Harwell Restoration, and The Book Collector for their generous sponsorship of the conference.
