Machine Learning Specialists

Machine Learning Specialists

Machine learning specialists focus on developing algorithms that can learn from and adapt to data to make predictions. They design, develop and test algorithms and analytical models for data and information processing, analyse historical data, test hypotheses and provide technical support for programme management and business development activities.

Some elements of machine learning expertise also fall under the data science job description, but a machine learning specialist will generally not be responsible for data visualisations and collection procedures, although a knowledge of the ethics of data gathering and use is also helpful in these roles.

Qualifications and experience

A degree in computer science, mathematics or significant programming experience is essential to land a job in machine learning. As a minimum you’ll be expected to have good knowledge of statistics, probability and data modelling procedures, programming skills and experience using machine learning programming languages such as C/C++, R and Python.
