Optional 2 hour workshop – Strategic Financial Management
At the end of Day 2 there will be an optional 2 hour workshop on strategic financial management, run by Leo Appleton.
This online interactive workshop is all about planning and managing library finances, which is key to both successful
operational and strategic management of libraries.
During the workshop participants will look at library budgets in general, and gain understanding of how they are set and managed. The workshop will also consider capital budgets
and how to make appropriate cases for project capital.
Part of the workshop will involve taking part in a library financial planning exercise using some example management accounts. Participants will assume the role of the head
of library service and will consider the overall position of their library’s finances at the end of the financial year, and whether any management interventions are required at different times of the financial year.
