CILIP’s Skills for Leadership - Manage, Motivate and Influence

2 half days - Thursday 28 October - Friday 29 October

Leadership happens at all levels of an organisation and library and information service environments are no exception.

CILIP is bringing together some of the leading lights of the library and information profession to share their experience of leadership at a brand new, two-morning virtual event on 28 and 29 October.

If you are in a leadership role, or aspire to leadership, this event’s combination of inspiring keynote talks and relevant case studies will set you on the right path.

The speakers will be sharing their experiences of leadership skills, behaviours and and values, managing organisational change, motivating and influencing people, and their advice when it comes to negotiating and finance.

  • How can you help steer a team through uncertain waters?

  • What do you need to put in place to ensure smooth culture change in an organisation?

  • How can organisations make the most of the skill sets present in multigenerational teams?

  • How can we use our influence as a sector to lead our communities towards change?

  • How can you positively influence the outcome for your team/organisation?

Optional 2 hour workshop – Strategic Financial Management

At the end of Day 2 there will be an optional 2 hour workshop on strategic financial management, run by Leo Appleton.

This online interactive workshop is all about planning and managing library finances, which is key to both successful operational and strategic management of libraries.

During the workshop participants will look at library budgets in general, and gain understanding of how they are set and managed. The workshop will also consider capital budgets and how to make appropriate cases for project capital.

Part of the workshop will involve taking part in a library financial planning exercise using some example management accounts. Participants will assume the role of the head of library service and will consider the overall position of their library’s finances at the end of the financial year, and whether any management interventions are required at different times of the financial year.
