There will be Q&A after each presentation followed by a panel discussion where delegates will be asked to contribute their own experiences and delve deeper into the topic.

Leading Change in Libraries Together

As libraries evolve in their ambition and scope, they need to embed problem-solving and entrepreneurship skills that support innovation. But how can library leaders enable members of their organization to see themselves as agents of change?  Together, we'll explore the challenging mindset shifts needed to embrace cultural change and some techniques to build collective capacity in leading and managing change.

Leading through change: The NELFT story (so far)

For the NHS organisational culture is a patient safety issue. The COVID19 pandemic has shone a light on the health equalities that exist in the UK. The NHS People Plan 2020/2021 gives greater emphasis to reducing health inequalities and addressing the disproportionate impact of COVID 19 on people from black, Asian and ethnic minorities.

Since 2013 NELFT has undergone systemic and cultural change aimed at tackling the root causes of institutional racism and biases affecting the lived experience of staff from ethnic minority groups. These changes have been driven by a combination of  executive level sponsorship and a powerful EMN staff network. 

Now in its third iteration our Board backed EMN strategy looks beyond staff experience and includes objectives covering health inequalities and community engagement.

Natasha will talk about NELFT’s achievements, the power of “leadership at all levels” and hopes for new cultural change programmes in progress.

Organisational Change through System Change

Leading any enterprise through change is a challenge that, when successful, has many rewards. When significant professional, cultural, and linguistic differences are combined in a single organisation the challenges and rewards are far greater, take much longer and are complex in unexpected ways. My contribution to the CILIP conference theme will present an ongoing journey of implementing information management change at Qatar Foundation, a leading Middle Eastern education, science, and technology organisation based in Doha. In a diverse environment that speaks, thinks, and works in many different tongues the challenge is to change how evidence of business is created, preserved, and used; by using technology, communication, and patience, that change can be achieved.
