This issue is more prescient in the USA where libraries are receiving a slew of requests to bar certain books from being displayed. I have always thought this as being wrong of any countries which claim to be democratic in how they govern communities. Being democratic, we have to respect all views, no matter how wrong and illegitimate they are seen by those who commit themselves to the ideals expected of a democracy rather than of an authoritarian state in which it is traditionally assumed that certain groups of people are rejected as having any kind of rights of all. I think for those who live in the UK are fortunate to have a library system who tries to stock a wide range of books, albeit limited by funds. I think if a book has received some kind of media notoriety then perhaps libraries can run discussion events or activities to discuss the book's content.
