Library & Information Research Group

Thank you for helping with our research project

Thank you to everyone who filled in our survey contributing to our research project looking at Library, Information and Knowledge practitioners' experiences, skills and confidence of taking part in research as part of professional practice. We really appreciate your input and are now analysing the data. If you agreed to be interviewed you may be hearing from us in due course.

The findings of this research will help develop strategy around research for the profession, identify training needs and interventions to encourage research ensuring that key values are embedded in library, information and knowledge practice.

Once we have collected and analysed our data, we will be posting our findings on our Blog as well as sharing our insights in presentations and publications.

The Library and Information Research Group (LIRG) promotes the value of information research and links research with practice.

The groups was formed in 1977 to draw together professionals interested in bringing library and information research into practice. We became a Special Interest Group of CILIP, the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals, in April 2003.

Mission

LIRG will support and raise the profile of library and information science research and its use by CILIP LIRG members and the wider community. It will provide relevant and high quality activities and publications for practitioners and researchers which will encourage ‘research into practice’ and involve wider stakeholders.

What does LIRG do?

LIRG aims to raise awareness of information research by:

  • Increasing its profile and influencing its direction;
  • Promoting the dissemination of sound research methodology and results;
  • Assisting in the development of emerging researchers; and
  • Enabling networking between researchers.

The activities of the Group are co-ordinated by an elected committee of researchers, research students, lecturers and practitioners in the library and information profession.
