Elizabeth Hutchinson and CILIP Partnership Training: Building successful teacher collaboration through FOSIL-based inquiry

This half-day training event for school librarians will look at how to get started with approaching and working with teachers through inquiry. Delegates will explore the important role of school library staff in providing informal professional development for teachers.
An online event led by our experienced trainer Elizabeth Hutchinson, this session will focus on using the initial teacher contact form to guide school library staff into conversations about curriculum topics and demonstrate how this can help teachers understand school librarians' role within inquiry.
It is designed for school library staff working across all sectors and is a great introduction to FOSIL (Framework Of Skills for Inquiry Learning).
- Find out about the IFLA School Library Guidelines, the FOSIL Group and Backward Design.
- Examine how to work with teachers in supporting students through using an initial teacher contact form, which the trainer will share with delegates.
Learning Objectives
By the end of the session, attendees will have had the opportunity to:
- Explore ways to approach teachers with the idea of introducing them to an inquiry framework - FOSIL (Framework Of Skills for Inquiry Learning).
- Recognise and understand ways to find what inquiry projects are coming up in your school curriculum.
- Explore ‘backward design’
- Help teachers discuss their needs and demonstrate your skillset through an initial teacher contact form.
- Leave with tools to get you started.

Venue: Online using Zoom
The course is hosted through our online video conference system. This software is optimal for audience participation and provides free, accessible and remote access.
