Proposals are invited for the CILIP Cataloguing and Indexing Group (CIG) biennial conference “Metadata: Create, Share and Enrich” to be held from 5-7 September 2018 at the John McIntyre Conference Centre in Edinburgh, Scotland.

CIG recently ran a successful event called “Thinking about classification” and we would like to take another look at classification in September’s issue of Catalogue and Index.

The September 2017 issue of Catalogue and Index, number 188, is now available. The theme of this bumper issue is classification. The articles cover many areas relating to classification, including the usage of classification schemes, digital tools for classification, the theory of classification, reclassification, specific schemes (UDC, LCC, Garside, local schemes, Thema) and much more besides.

Catalogue and Index is an open access publication.

The June 2017 issue of Catalogue and Index is now available. The theme of this issue is metadata work in Institutional Repositories (IR). The theme was chosen in direct response to feedback from attendees of the CIG 2016 conference and also because it is an area that more and more cataloguers are becoming involved with at their institutions.

Catalogue and Index is now an open access publication so there is no need to log on to the website to read it.

We would like to invite all cataloguers, CIG members and non-members alike, to take part in a short survey about classification and reclassification. We are interested in hearing from people working in libraries and other information environments in the UK.

The survey will take no more than 10 minutes to complete and your contributions will help inform discussions at the ‘Thinking about classification’ workshop in June and possibly inform future research about reclassification. Please note that, although we ask for institution names, we will not use individual institution names when disseminating the results from this survey.

Participation in this survey is voluntary, and you are free to leave the survey at any point.

The survey will close on Wednesday 24th May.

The March 2017 issue of Catalogue and Index is now available. This issue has two interrelated themes. The first theme continues our coverage of the 2016 CIG conference, with the inclusion of more conference papers. The second theme follows on from the topics of the conference, using current projects and working practices to discuss the future of cataloguing.

Catalogue and Index is now an open access publication so there is no need to log on to the website to read it.

The CIG committee is pleased to announce that there are two bursaries on offer for our members to attend the CILIP Conference 2017. This year's event promises to be great so get those applications in!
