Scope

Catalogue & Index (ISSN: 0008-7629) is the periodical of CILIP Cataloguing & Indexing Group. It has been published since 1966 to discuss the organisation of knowledge to enable resource discovery and collection management, including articles on cataloguing, indexing, metadata, national and international standards and formats.

Published four times a year it has been open access since 2016. Articles may range from brief reports of a few hundred words to longer pieces up to a maximum of 2,000 words. All copies should be addressed to the editor and submitted in electronic format. Potential contributors are invited to contact the editors who will be happy to answer any questions or discuss ideas.

Guidance for contributors

Catalogue & Index is an open access publication. We do not charge APCs or submission charges.

We accept original articles, meeting reports, book reviews and letters which relate to the interests of CIG. Please look at previous papers to get a feel for the style and format of articles accepted.

Articles should be 1500-2000 words, reviews of 500-800 words.

We welcome and encourage new writers.

Your paper will be reviewed and considered by the editor(s).

 

Format and style

Articles should be submitted in Word format, Ariel 11 points, single line spaced. Any photos should be attached as jpeg format files.

Expand any acronyms the first time they are used.

Check spelling and grammar. Ask a friend or colleague to proof read.

Ensure that you have copyright clearance for any third party material, such as images.

All references cited within the text, including URLs, must be listed within a references section at the end of the paper.

 

Open Access statement

Catalogue & Index is an open access journal which means that all content is freely available without charge to the user or his/her institution. Users are allowed to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without asking prior permission from the publisher or the author. This is in accordance with the BOAI definition of open access.

We do not charge APCs or submission charges.

 

Copyright statement

The author retains copyright to the paper, and grants C & I permission to publish their paper under a Creative Commons licence. The default licence is CC-BY but you may select a different cc licence if required.
