Carnegie Leadership 6.1 Becoming the leader I want to be

Stepping into Leadership

6. Becoming the leader I want to be

6.1 Reviewing reflections from the course modules

This module is the opportunity to look back at your thoughts and reflections about leadership and creativity and formulate an action plan to continue developing as a leader.

The module consists of 3 pages of content. Use the "Continue the course" links at the bottom of each page to work through the pages in order. To choose another module use the buttons at the bottom of the page.

You can use the Stepping Into Leadership Course Workbook or your own record or learning log to review the main points of the modules and, more importantly, the aspects of your own leadership that you want to develop in the future.

It is worth remembering the aims and principles behind the course.

  • Leadership is not confined to people at the “top” of organisations.
  • Leadership qualities are found at all levels.
  • We are all capable of leading and we are all capable of becoming better leaders.

To be more effective as a leader we need to know ourselves. We need to be open to understanding why we do things and how what we say and do affects other people.

This course encouraged us to reflect on our behaviours and to consider what is helping us to be effective and what might be hindering us.

Rather than advocate any single style of leadership, the course has asked us to consider the nature of leadership and encouraged us to develop our own principles for how we want to lead.

Before reviewing the modules systematically, take a few moments to think about yourself as a leader.

  • In what ways are you an effective leader?
  • What aspects of leadership do you want to develop for yourself?

Look back at your notes in each module/section and highlight the areas where you want to focus your on-going development as a leader.
