Research in the Workplace Award

Sponsored by HLG, UHMLG and LIRG

The 2018 Research in the Workplace Award (RIWA) has been given to Reading for Health, a collaborative proposal submitted by Carol Hallesy, Knowledge Services Manager at NHS Lanarkshire and Lynn Clark at CultureNL Libraries.

All about RIWA

RIWA is a biennial award designed to fund small UK based workplace research projects with the aim of developing a strong evidence base for health information practice.

The award of up to £3000 is open to any applicant employed for at least 17.5 hours per week in a health and social care library or an information service providing health and social care information.

Projects can relate to any aspect of service provision, development or theory and should be achievable in a twelve month period. The award can be used to fund equipment, consumables, buy out time, the purchase of technical support and so forth.

Previous winners include:

  • 2014 - Alison Forde, based at the Health, Nursing and Midwifery Department, University of the West of Scotland.  The project was entitled "Information literacy: can an embedded librarian intervention enhance health visiting students' competencies".
  • 2012 - Chris Cooper and colleagues at the Peninsula Medical School and evaluated the state and usage of British bibliographic databases relevant to health and social care fields. Their research has since been published in BMJ Open at http://bmjopen.bmj.com/content/2/3/e001411.full.
