CILIP Ireland is delighted to announce that we are sponsoring a bursary place at the YLG Conference in Eastbourne, September 2025. The bursary will cover a conference ticket and travel and accommodation expenses to the value of £300. The closing date for applications is Sunday 10th August at midnight. CILIP Ireland was delighted to offer a bursary to the recent Edge Conference in Edinburgh to support the professional development of our members. The lucky recipient was Dr Mary-Ellen Lynn. Mary-Ellen is the Belfast City Area Manager at Libraries NI. Read Mary-Ellen’s conference report here.

CILIP Ireland was delighted to welcome CILIP President Sue Lacey-Bryant to Belfast for an “In Conversation” event held on Wednesday 12th March in Belfast Central library. Both members and non-members enjoyed an afternoon of networking, discussion and knowledge sharing.

CILIP Ireland and the Library Association of Ireland (LAI) have joined forces to offer four bursary opportunities to attend our upcoming LAI / CILIP Ireland Joint Conference. The conference takes place on 10th and 11th April in the Kingsley Hotel, Cork.

The CILIP Ireland Committee was delighted to welcome Jo Cornish to Belfast on 15th May. Jo joined CILIP Ireland members in Belfast Central Library to talk all things CILIP. Jo updated us on Libraries Change Lives and she talked to us about the benefits of professional registration at any stage in your career. Thank you to all of you who attended our AGM. It was lovely to see so many CILIP Ireland members online. It is our ambition in 2024 to see you at in person events! The first event takes place on Wednesday 28th February at 6pm in the McClay Library in Belfast. This is an opportunity for CILIP Ireland members and non members to get together in a very informal way and discuss their career. Come along and speak to CILIP members who are seeking professional registration to further their careers. Find out how CILIP membership can help you improve your career prospects. Are you new to the library and information profession and would like to know more about how to progress in your field? Are you in a new post and want to share your experience with others? Are you on the lookout for a new job or thinking about changing sectors? Join us for an evening of idea exchange and career chat.

The CILIP Ireland / LAI Joint Conference will take place on 24th and 25th April 2024. The theme for the conference is Building for the Future and we want to hear from you! We have a range of opportunities to present at conference. The closing date for submissions is Sunday 14 January.

 

The CILIP Ireland Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held at 10:30am on Friday 19th January. The AGM is open to all CILIP Ireland members. Others are not entitled to vote, but are welcome to attend as observers. An Individual Member who is unable to attend the meeting is entitled to appoint a proxy to vote at the AGM on their behalf.

 

The LAI/CILIP Ireland Staff Champion Award aims to recognise the many extraordinary staff who work in libraries throughout our communities. As library staff, we all know exceptional people working in the sector who make a significant impact in their roles, as colleagues and to our library users. We invite staff to nominate a colleague, in your library or in the sector, for the LAI/ CILIP Ireland Library Staff Champion Award 2023.

The joint CILIP Ireland/LAI Conference returns to Northern Ireland in 2024. We will be holding it in Newry at the popular four-star Canal Court Hotel & Spa on Wednesday 24 and Thursday 25 April 2024. The theme is Building for the Future. More details will be available here.

The 2022 CILIP Ireland Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held online at 10:30am on Friday 25th November. The AGM is open to all CILIP Ireland members. Others are welcome to attend as observers but are not entitled to vote.

CILIP Ireland and the Library Association of Ireland have just launched an exciting all-island Virtual Mentoring Network. This is a collaboration to enable library and information professionals to share knowledge and support across the island of Ireland.

As part of Library Ireland Week, staff working in libraries across Northern Ireland and Ireland are invited to nominate a colleague for the LAI/CILIP Ireland Library Staff Champion Award.

An inspiring article written the by the inagural winner of the CILIP Ireland-LAI Staff Champion Award Marie Cullen. Marie provides an overview of her own career and offers some practical guidance and advice on how to engage with the profession.

“Vision and Revision: Virtual Libraries and New Beginnings” was the theme of the 2021 CILIP Ireland/LAI annual Joint Conference. Here Gerardine Blee, CILIP Ireland Relationship Manager, describes some of the highlights of the conference which was held virtually for the first time and ran across two afternoons, providing a platform for librarians and information professionals across the island of Ireland and beyond to come together.

The 2021 CILIP Ireland/LAI annual joint conference will be held from 15-16th April 2021 and will take place virtually. The conference will take the format of two half-day programmes showcasing the library and information sector across the island of Ireland and beyond. We are inviting students and new professionals to submit proposals for our New Voices session.

For the first time the 2020 CILIP Ireland Open Day and AGM was held online, taking place on Thursday 3rd December. This virtual event, which was kindly sponsored by Innovative, was held amid ongoing public health restrictions and provided a timely opportunity for the local professional community to connect and reflect on what has undoubtedly been a challenging year both personally and professionally.

Library Ireland Week will take place from Monday 30th November to Sunday 6th December 2020 and this year’s theme is “Libraries Endure: Continuity in a Crisis”. To mark and acknowledge library staff for their contributions to the sector, Library Ireland Week 2020 are promoting the Library Staff Champion Award.

Libraries Week is the annual showcase and celebration of the best that libraries have to offer and this year it took place from 5th-10th October. To celebrate CILIP Ireland asked local libraries to share some of the many innovative ways they've been supporting their communities.

CILIP Ireland welcomes the publication of the 'Great School Libraries” report and in particular the key insights and evidence in relation to school libraries in Northern Ireland.

CILIP President David Stewart visited Northern Ireland last week for an informal “Meet the President” social event. Held on Wednesday 18th September 2019 in the lovely setting of the Senate Room at Queen’s University, Belfast CILIP Ireland members enjoyed an evening of networking, discussion and knowledge sharing over drinks and canapés.

On Friday 28th June 2019, BIALL collaborated with CILIP Ireland and CLSIG to deliver their popular Legal Reference Materials course at the Belfast offices of Allen and Overy. This was the first time the course has ever been delivered in Northern Ireland and it provided a fantastic opportunity for local law librarians to develop new skills and refresh their existing knowledge.

This year the LAI and CILIP Ireland Joint Conference and Exhibition headed southwards after last year’s successful northern venture in the Canal Court Hotel and Spa in Newry, Co. Down. Hosted in the Killashee Hotel in Naas, Co. Kildare from 10th to 11th April it attracted a phenomenal c.170 delegates from across the island of Ireland and offered a great mix of cross-sector speakers.

The 2018 CILIP Ireland Open Day and Annual General Meeting (AGM) took place on Wednesday 5 December in the impressive surroundings of the Inn of Court at the Royal Courts of Justice, Belfast.

This year the LAI/CILIP Ireland Joint Annual Conference will address the theme of ‘Inclusive Libraries’ and we would like to hear from both members and non-members about the work happening in libraries across Ireland and beyond.

The 2018 CILIP Ireland Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held at 11:30 on Wednesday 5th December at the Bar Library. The AGM is open to all CILIP Ireland members and forms part of the CILIP Ireland Open Day programme.

 

The Conference theme was "Inspiring People, Inspiring Libraries" and delegates enjoyed a packed programme with plenary sessions over two full days covering a diverse range of topics ranging from collaborative communities to library transformation.

 

The 2017 CILIP Ireland Open Day and AGM took place on Thursday 7th December and was hosted by the McClay Library at Queen’s University Belfast.
