Taflu’r goleuni ar lyfrgelloedd ysgolion

Mae Cyngor Llyfrau Cymru a CILIP Cymru Wales yn galw ar gyfranwyr i ymuno â nhw mewn prosiect i gefnogi a datblygu cynlluniau ar gyfer llyfrgelloedd ysgolion Cymru ar gyfer y dyfodol.

Bydd y prosiect, sy’n cael ei ariannu gan Gronfa Kathleen Cooks CILIP Cymru Wales, yn mapio darpariaeth llyfrgelloedd ysgolion mewn ysgolion cynradd, uwchradd ac arbennig ledled Cymru; gyda’r nod o sefydlu rhwydwaith ar draws y sector a darparu tystiolaeth er mwyn gwneud penderfyniadau/argymhellion gwell a mwy strategol ynghylch cefnogi llyfrgelloedd ysgolion yn y dyfodol.

Dywedodd Amy Staniforth, o CILIP Cymru Wales:

“Mae llyfrgelloedd ysgolion a llyfrgellwyr yn cynnig gwasanaeth gwerthfawr a hanfodol trwy ddarparu mynediad i blant at wybodaeth, argymhellion darllen a chefnogaeth, a chynnig man diogel lle gallant wneud eu dewisiadau gwybodus eu hunain. Gwyddom fod gwaith gwych yn digwydd mewn llyfrgelloedd ysgolion yng Nghymru, ond mae’r dystiolaeth yn anecdotaidd, ac rydym yn poeni bod ysgolion a llyfrgellwyr yn mynd heb y cymorth sydd ei angen arnynt gan y sectorau addysg a llyfrgelloedd ehangach. Mae Cyngor Llyfrau Cymru eisoes yn ymgysylltu ag ysgolion, awdurdodau lleol a llyfrgelloedd, felly maen nhw mewn sefyllfa delfrydol i ddechrau’r prosiect hwn. Rwy’n gyffrous bod y gwaith pwysig hwn yn dechrau!”

Dywedodd Angharad Sinclair o Gyngor Llyfrau Cymru:

“Rydym yn galw ar bobl sydd eisoes yn gweithio o fewn y sector llyfrgelloedd, ysgolion neu awdurdodau lleol, neu sydd â gwybodaeth neu brofiad o ddarpariaeth llyfrgelloedd ysgol, i ymuno â grŵp llywio i symud y prosiect yn ei flaen.

Mae hwn yn gyfle gwerthfawr i helpu i lunio dyfodol llyfrgelloedd ysgolion yng Nghymru o ran cymorth a darpariaeth. Ar hyn o bryd, nid yw’r llyfrgelloedd hyn yn dod o dan gylch gwaith penodol llywodraeth leol na Llywodraeth Cymru, ac wrth i ysgolion, adnoddau a strwythurau staffio newid dros amser, mae’r darlun ehangach o ran darpariaeth llyfrgelloedd mewn ysgolion wedi’i golli. Ni allwn weld yn hawdd sut mae ysgolion, athrawon a disgyblion yn darparu adnoddau yn eu llyfrgelloedd na’u defnyddio, ac mae angen help arnom i roi’r darlun yn ôl at ei gilydd eto. Bydd hyn yn ein galluogi i nodi pa gymorth a strwythurau y bydd eu hangen ar lyfrgelloedd ysgolion yn y dyfodol er mwyn i bob disgybl yng Nghymru gael mynediad at yr adnodd hanfodol hwn.”

Nod y grŵp llywio fydd arwain y gwaith o ran mapio’r ddarpariaeth bresennol ar gyfer llyfrgelloedd ysgolion a chreu darlun cyflawn ar gyfer ysgolion ledled Cymru. Bydd y prosiect yn anelu at:

  • Mapio’r ddarpariaeth bresennol ar gyfer llyfrgelloedd ysgolion ledled Cymru
  • Mapio’r gefnogaeth ar gyfer darpariaeth llyfrgelloedd ysgol ymhlith awdurdodau lleol
  • Mapio sefydliadau rhanddeiliaid ar gyfer llyfrgelloedd ysgolion ledled Cymru
  • Gwahodd ysgolion (arweinwyr llythrennedd/llyfrgellwyr ysgol) i ymuno â rhwydwaith data newydd a rhannu arfer da
  • Gwahodd rhanddeiliaid llyfrgelloedd ysgolion i ymuno â’r rhwydwaith
  • Adrodd ar ganlyniadau ac argymhellion.

Os oes gennych brofiad neu os ydych yn gweithio mewn ysgolion, llyfrgelloedd, awdurdodau lleol neu rwydweithiau cysylltiedig eraill, ac yr hoffech fod yn rhan o’r gwaith hwn, cofrestrwch eich diddordeb drwy e-bostio angharad.sinclair@llyfrau.cymru

Putting the spotlight on school libraries

Books Council of Wales and CILIP Cymru Wales are calling for contributors to join them in a project to support and develop the future plans for school libraries in Wales.

The project, which is funded by CILIP Cymru Wales’ Kathleen Cooks Fund, will map school library provision in Primary, Secondary and Special schools across Wales; ultimately establishing a network across the sector, and providing evidence for better and more strategic decisions/recommendations to be made about supporting school libraries in the future.

Amy Staniforth, from CILIP Cymru Wales said:

“School libraries and librarians offer a valuable and essential service by providing children with access to information, reading recommendations and support, and to a safe space where they can make their own informed choices. We know there is great work going on in school libraries in Wales, but the evidence is anecdotal, and we’re worried that there are schools and librarians going without the support they need from the wider education and library sectors. Books Council Wales already engage with schools, local authorities and libraries so they are perfectly placed to begin this project. I’m excited that this important work is getting started!”

Angharad Sinclair from Books Council of Wales said:

“We’re calling for people who may already work within the libraries, schools or the local authority sector, or who have knowledge or experience of school library provision, to join a steering group to move the project forward.

This is a valuable opportunity to help shape the future of school library support and provision in Wales. Currently, school libraries don’t fall under a specific local government or Welsh Government remit, and as schools, resources and staffing structures have changed over time, the bigger picture on library provision in schools has been lost. We can’t easily see how schools, teachers and pupils are providing or accessing library resources and we need help to put the picture back together again. This will enable us to identify what support and structures school libraries will need in the future, so that all pupils in Wales have access to this essential resource.”

The steering group that will be established will lead work to map the existing provision for school libraries and build a complete picture for schools across Wales. The project will aim to:

  • Map the current provision for school libraries across Wales
  • Map the support for school library provision among local authorities
  • Map stakeholder organisations for school libraries across Wales
  • Invite schools (literacy leads/school librarians) to join a new data network and share good practice
  • Invite school library stakeholders to join the network
  • Report on results and recommendations.

If you have experience or are working in schools, libraries, local authorities or other related networks and would like to be part of this work, please register your interest by emailing angharad.sinclair@llyfrau.cymru
