Mae prosiectau arloesol Llyfrgelloedd Gwyrdd Cymru a gyhoeddwyd gan CILIP Cymru Wales yn cynnwys tyfu bwyd mewn gofodau creu mewn llyfrgelloedd, hyfforddiant llythrennedd carbon staff, arddangosiadau planhigion gyda thema, a meithrin sgyrsiau cenedlaethol newydd am newid hinsawdd.

Sefydlwyd Cronfa Grantiau Bach Llyfrgelloedd Gwyrdd Cymru i sbarduno twf prosiectau yng Nghymru fel rhan o’r Bartneriaeth Llyfrgelloedd Gwyrdd (am fanylion, ewch i www.cilip.org.uk/GreenLibraries ). Nod y gronfa oedd cefnogi rhaglenni archwiliol ar raddfa fach, gweithgareddau a rhannu gwybodaeth o fewn llyfrgelloedd yng Nghymru i geisio gwella dealltwriaeth gyffredinol a chymryd camau i ddangos Cyfrifoldeb Amgylcheddol.

Gwnaeth y ceisiadau gymaint o argraff ar Banel Kathleen Cooks fel eu bod wedi cytuno i ariannu'r tri phrosiect yn llawn er mwyn sicrhau llwyddiant. Mae CILIP Cymru wrth ei fodd yn rhoi gwybod i chi am y prosiectau hynod amrywiol hyn ac yn edrych ymlaen at ymgysylltu â’r proffesiwn ehangach ar eu heffaith hirdymor ar y sector yng Nghymru.

Gwasanaeth Gwybodaeth a Llyfrgelloedd Cyfoeth Naturiol Cymru a Llyfrgelloedd Gwynedd - £2,500

Gwirionedd Cyfleus

Mae tystiolaeth yn awgrymu y bydd mynd i’r afael â’r argyfwng hinsawdd a natur yn gofyn am gydweithredu ar draws pob rhan o gymdeithas (Adroddiad ar Sefyllfa Adnoddau Naturiol: Asesiad o Reoli Adnoddau Naturiol yn Gynaliadwy, CNC 2016 ). Mae hyn yn rhywbeth nad yw’n cael ei gyfathrebu’n dda yn aml yn y cyfryngau prif ffrwd wrth iddynt ymdrechu i ddod o hyd i gydbwysedd rhwng safbwyntiau gwrthgyferbyniol, sy’n aml yn ymrannol, ar bynciau dadleuol. Ar ben hynny, mae trafodaethau a dadleuon ynghylch yr argyfyngau natur a hinsawdd yn esblygu’n gyflym a gallant olygu bod llawer o wybodaeth anghywir yn cael ei rhannu – yn enwedig ar-lein ac yn y cyfryngau cymdeithasol, gan arwain at bobl yn ochri, neu’n ffurfio safbwyntiau sydd wedi hen ymwreiddio, nad ydynt o reidrwydd yn seiliedig ar ffeithiau.

Bydd y prosiect hwn yn archwilio rôl llyfrgelloedd cyhoeddus wrth hwyluso mynediad y cyhoedd at wybodaeth ddibynadwy, awdurdodol, a diddorol am y pwnc hanfodol hwn, er mwyn helpu defnyddwyr i werthuso'n feirniadol wybodaeth sy'n gwrthdaro, ac yn ei dro, rhoi'r gallu i bobl weithredu.

Bydd prosiect Gwirionedd Cyfleus yn creu cysylltiadau cryf rhwng Cyfoeth Naturiol Cymru (CNC) a llyfrgelloedd cyhoeddus gogledd Cymru i greu llwyfan ar gyfer gwaith allgymorth CNC ac i gynnwys y cyhoedd mewn sgyrsiau. Yn yr un modd, bydd y prosiect yn hyrwyddo llyfrgelloedd cyhoeddus fel canolfannau cymunedol hanfodol a chanolfannau dysgu ar y cyd am yr argyfyngau natur a hinsawdd.

Bydd y prosiect yn creu ac yn hyrwyddo casgliad o ddeunydd cyfoes, awdurdodol – gyda chyfran o’r deunydd hynny yn ymdrin yn benodol â’r cyd-destun Cymreig, gan gynnwys deunydd yn y Gymraeg – er mwyn hysbysu’r cyhoedd am yr agweddau niferus o’r argyfyngau natur a hinsawdd, byd natur a bioamrywiaeth, gan helpu i rymuso pobl i wneud newidiadau yn eu bywydau eu hunain.

Bydd y prosiect hefyd yn hyrwyddo’r casgliad llyfrgell sydd gan CNC fel adnodd dysgu gwerthfawr ar gyfer myfyrwyr, gwyddonwyr sy’n ddinasyddion ac eraill sydd â diddordeb byw yn y maes a’i nod yw hwyluso’r gwaith o greu grŵp darllen, neu grwpiau i gyfarfod mewn llyfrgelloedd cyhoeddus a llyfrgell CNC ym Maes y Ffynnon.

Mewn partneriaeth â Llyfrgelloedd Gwynedd bydd prosiect Gwirionedd Cyfleus yn hwyluso digwyddiadau mewn llyfrgelloedd cyhoeddus a gynhelir gan amrywiaeth o arbenigwyr, arbenigwyr lleol a grwpiau cymunedol i hwyluso trafodaeth fywiog, a rhoi llwyfan i wahanol safbwyntiau o fewn ffrâm tystiolaeth glir.

Bydd Hannah Lee o Plantlife yn cyflwyno tair sesiwn ar gadwraeth twyni tywod yng nghanghennau llyfrgelloedd Gwynedd (Môn a Gwynedd - Dynamic Dunescapes ). Bydd Claudia Howard o Elfennau Gwyllt yn cyflwyno tair sesiwn yn ymwneud â chysylltu pobl â byd natur yng nghanghennau llyfrgelloedd Gwynedd (Elfennau Gwyllt | Hafan).

Fel gweddill CNC, caiff y Gwasanaeth Llyfrgelloedd a Gwybodaeth ei arwain gan egwyddorion rheoli adnoddau naturiol yn gynaliadwy.

Mae'r egwyddorion hyn yn cydnabod pwysigrwydd ymagwedd hirdymor at yr heriau amgylcheddol sy'n wynebu cymdeithas ac mae'r llyfrgell yn ymateb i hyn trwy reoli ei sail tystiolaeth electronig a ffisegol ar gyfer mynediad hirdymor. Mae’r egwyddor hon hefyd yn amlygu pwysigrwydd addysg wrth helpu i greu dinasyddion gwybodus ac ymgysylltiol sy’n hanfodol er mwyn i gymdeithas wneud y newidiadau diwylliannol hirdymor sydd eu hangen i gyfyngu ar ei heffaith ar yr hinsawdd a’r amgylchedd ehangach.

Mae egwyddorion Rheoli Adnoddau Naturiol yn Gynaliadwy hefyd yn nodi'n glir yr angen i gydweithio a chyfranogi â'r cyhoedd yn y gwaith y mae CNC yn ei wneud a dyna pam mae'r prosiect hwn yn anelu at greu partneriaethau â llyfrgelloedd cyhoeddus a chryfhau ei gysylltiad â'r cyhoedd.

Dros amser, dylai’r prosiect gynyddu ymgysylltiad rhwng CNC a dinasyddion, gan gynnwys creu cymunedau ymarfer, labordai gwyddoniaeth dinasyddion, er mwyn helpu i feithrin arbenigedd a hyder yn data’r sefydliad, fel y gall CNC yn ei dro wella y cyngor y mae’n ei roi i’r Llywodraeth ar agweddau’r cyhoedd tuag at weithredu dros natur a newid hinsawdd.

Ground breaking Green Libraries Wales projects announced by CILIP Cymru Wales include growing food in library makerspaces, staff carbon literacy training, themed plant displays, and nurturing new national conversations about climate change.

The Green Libraries Wales Small Grant Fund was sent up to seed fund projects in Wales as part of the Green Libraries Partnership (for details, visit www.cilip.org.uk/GreenLibraries ). The fund aimed to support small-scale exploratory programmes, activities and knowledge-sharing within libraries in Wales seeking to improve overall understanding and take actions to demonstrate Environmental Responsibility.

The Kathleen Cooks Panel were so impressed by the applications that they agreed to fund the three projects in full to ensure success. CILIP Cymru Wales is thrilled to tell you about these incredibly diverse projects and looks forward to engaging with the wider profession on long term impact for the sector in Wales.

Convenient Truth

Evidence suggests that tackling the climate and nature emergency will take nearly complete co-operation across all parts of society (State of Natural Resources Report: An assessment of Sustainable Management of Natural Resources, NRW 2016). This is something that is rarely communicated well in the mainstream media as they strive to find a balance between opposing, often divisive views on controversial topics. Furthermore, discussion and debates around the nature and climate emergencies evolve quickly and can attract a great deal of misinformation – particularly online and in social media, ending up with people taking sides, or forming entrenched viewpoints, not necessarily based on facts.

This project will explore the role of public libraries in facilitating public access to reliable, authoritative, and engaging information about this crucial subject, to help users to critically evaluate conflicting information as they encounter it, and in turn, give people agency to take action.

The Convenient Truth project will create strong links between Natural Resources Wales (NRW) and public libraries in North Wales to create a platform for NRW’s outreach work and to engage the public in conversations. Equally, the project will promote public libraries as vital community hubs and centres of shared learning about the nature and climate emergencies.

The project will create and promote a collection of contemporary, authoritative material – with a proportion specific to the Welsh context, including material in the Welsh language – to inform the public about the many aspects of the nature and climate emergencies, natural history and biodiversity and to help empower people to make changes in their own lives.

The project will also promote the library collection held by NRW as a valuable learning resource for students, citizen scientists and other enthusiasts and aims to facilitate the creation of a reading group, or groups, to meet at public libraries and NRW’s library at Maes y Ffynnon.

In partnership with Gwynedd Libraries the Convenient Truth project will facilitate events in public libraries hosted by a variety of specialists, local experts and community groups to facilitate vibrant discussion, and a platform for different perspectives within a clear evidence framing.

Hannah Lee of Plantlife, will deliver three sessions on sand dune conservation within library branches in Gwynedd (Anglesey and Gwynedd - Dynamic Dunescapes). Claudia Howard of Wild Elements will deliver three sessions around connecting people with nature within library branches in Gwynedd (Wild Elements | Home).

Like the rest of NRW the Information and Library Service is guided by the principals of sustainable management of natural resources (SMNR).

These principals recognise the importance of a long-term approach to the environmental challenges facing society and the library responds to this by managing its electronic and physical evidence base for long-term access. This principle also highlights the importance of education in helping to create informed and engaged citizens which is essential for society to make the long-term cultural shifts necessary to limit its impact on the climate and wider environment.

The principals of SMNR also make explicit the need to collaborate and participate with the public in the work that NRW does which is why this project aims to create partnerships with public libraries and strengthen its connection with the public.

Over time, the project should increase engagement between NRW and citizens, including the creation of communities of practice, citizen science labs, to help build expertise and confidence in the organisation’s data, so that NRW can in turn improve its advice to Government on public attitudes towards action for nature and climate change.
